Flexible Pathways is a term to describe the alternative ways that students can participate in Essex High School. Each program has different features and strengths. It is part of an initiative of the Vermont Agency of Education and Act 77, adopted in 2013. It recognizes that, as unique as learners are, there are unique pathways through their educational story. The state has recognized we need to honor those different pathways.

Flexible Pathways in Essex High School include:

• Participation in a Dual Enrollment Program (Act 77 gives Vermont state high schoolers the opportunity to use 2 college course vouchers during their 11th or 12th grade years in high school.)
• Enrollment in Early College Program (a full-year alternative to the 12th grade year of high school. Students take courses in college, completing their 12th grade first year of college at the same time, tuition-free. )
• Access to and credit for work-based learning via Career Center
• Credit through community service or independent study
• Increased virtual/blended learning opportunities for online course work
• Access career and technical education through the Center for Technology, Essex 
• Implementation of Personalized Learning Plans across the district (page goes to district site)
• Enrollment in off-site program ACE, the Alternative Center for Education, which serves as a non-traditional way to help students complete their high school education in a smaller setting.
• Integrated Academies, which offer pathways of courses and learning opportunities that are integrated within EHS's traditional graduation course requirements. Students meet their standard requirements, and additionally participate in Academy coursework in and out of the classroom.
