  • Writing and Nature

Posted by Jaclyn Richardson on 10/12/2018

This week, students have been busy writing their small moment stories. We have been working on stretching our stories out bit by bit, using detail and bringing our characters to life with action and dialogue. Check out some of our work!

Today we had our awesome nature teachers teach us all about leaves. We learned about different types of leaves (pinnate, palmate and parallel to name a few.) We had the opportunity to collect our own samples and we worked on sorting and identifying them. We also did some beautiful leaf rubbings.

  • Monarch Release

Posted by Jaclyn Richardson on 10/5/2018

We released our monarch butterfly earlier in the week. He was a male butterfly. He rested in a tree for a while, as it was quite chilly and in between rain showers. We wished him luck on his journey!

We ended our week with a pajama day celebration. We have worked hard to show safety, kindness and responsibility. We had 100% partcipation and a lot of fun!

On Thursday, we harvested from our class garden and used the veggies to help make a caprese salad. The finished product was served during lunch time to anyone who wanted to try a sample. In our class, we collected data the following day and more kids like the salad compared with those who did not.

  • Nature

Posted by Jaclyn Richardson on 9/14/2018

Thank you to our awesome nature teachers for helping us to learn all about insects. This morning our class watched a very entertaining puppet show which taught us some interesting facts about insects. We had the opportunity to build an insect in small groups. We learned some important vocabulary words (thorax, abdomen, antennae and compund eyes to name a few.) We also contrasted insects and arachnids. We had the chance to explore around our garden and find our own insects to study. What a beautiful morning.

Thanks to a wonderful caterpillar finder, our class will have the opportunity to observe the magic of metamorphosis!

  • Partner Reading

Posted by Jaclyn Richardson on 9/7/2018

What a wonderful week we have had. We focused on building our independent reading stamina and revisited partner reading. Our class already knows so much about working in partnerships. Partners were excited and engaged in talking about their books and sharing their thinking.

  • Garden Fun!

Posted by Jaclyn Richardson on 8/30/2018

This afternoon we had the opportunity to observe all of the growing that has been happening in our class garden. We saw a forest of tomatoes, basil, kale, two enormous pumpkins, squash, cantelope, cucumbers and some beautiful flowers. We picked a very hefty watermelon and enjoyed it for a sweet snack.
