  • Laptop thumbnail Online Class Etiquette from EWSD

We want to remind parents that now that learning takes place in this way, in the home, teachers need your help in supervising and monitoring online behavior as students interact with new tools and methods.

    • You have the right to tell us that you do not want your child to have their video camera enabled for video/audio conferencing (notify your teacher).
    • Students should dress as they would when attending school
    • Students should join the video conference from an appropriate space in the home (such as at a kitchen table, desk, common space, etc., not laying/sitting on their bed or walking around with the computer in their hands)
    • Students should refrain from “showing their classmates around the house”
If you have a EWSD-issued Chromebook please review the Caring for your Chromebook at Home guidelines at the Technology Department's webpage.

We are all in this together and the role of you as parents/guardians is crucial to its success! For any technology needs please contact Helpdesk via email or at (802) 857-7777, M-F 7:30-4 p.m.

  • Washing hands COVID-19 and Our Schools

Your EWSD nurses are here to support the health and wellness of our entire school community. We are all aware of the prolonged flu season and the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.  The District continues to follow preventative and response guidelines offered by the Vermont Department of Health (VDH) and Vermont Agency of Education (AOE).

Your building nurse is available for any questions or concerns you may have regarding any illness or symptoms.

For District updates related to COVID-19, and helpful tips on staying healthy, please visit our EWSD page on the novel coronavirus. (Opens in a new window.)

  • AP Testing Information

We here at Essex High are making every effort to keep our students and the larger community informed regarding the changes to AP testing.  The College Board has stated “as schools and communities navigate the unprecedented challenges posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the health and safety of educators and students are the AP Program’s top priorities.”

      1. Traditional face-to-face exam administrations will not take place.  Students will take a 45-minute online free-response exam at home. The full exam schedule, specific free-response question types that will be on each AP Exam, and additional testing details will be available by April 3

    • Students will be able to take these streamlined exams on any device they have access to—computer, tablet, or smartphone.
    • We recognize that the digital divide could prevent some low-income and rural students from participating. Working with partners, the College Board will invest in resources so that these students have the tools and connectivity they need to review AP content online and take the exam. If your students need mobile tools or connectivity, you can reach out to the College Board or directly to Essex High School to let us know.

    1. Colleges support this solution and are committed to ensuring that AP students receive the credit they have worked this year to earn.
    2. The College Board in concert with EHS will continue to support students with free resources.
    3. We encourage students to wait until they have had a conversation with their teacher to decide if and when they will take the new version of the exam. However, any student already registered for an exam can choose to cancel at no charge.

Beginning on Wednesday, March 25th, students and teachers can attend free, live AP review courses, delivered by AP teachers from across the country.

  • Scholarship Opportunities

Looking for money? Check out the Scholarships tab in Naviance!

Many of the opportunities listed are local, including the Marilyn Hamel Scholarship which only accepts applications from EHS students. Some scholarships get very few applicants, so it's worth a shot!

    For Seniors:

Consider applying for the $1,000 Brad Nadeau Scholarship if you have a goal of earning a degree in a profession in which you could help others and demonstrate academic achievement! Minimum of a C or 2.0.

The application deadline has been extended to May 1. The Brad Nadeau Scholarship application can be found here.

Any questions please contact Siobhan Barber sbarber@ewsd.org

We know that your summer plans are likely up in the air right now. The deadline for the Faculty/Staff Summer Scholarship has been postponed until Friday, May 8th.

Are you planning to attend a summer enrichment program? Are you looking for financial assistance to pay for it?
The EHS Faculty and Staff are offering a summer scholarship for eligible applicants. The application for the Faculty/Staff Summer Scholarship explains eligibility and is now available here.
