Social Skills in the Classroom
-
Throughout the year I visit each classroom teaching lessons that focus on topics such as:
- teasing/bullying/harassment
- conflict resolution
- diversity
- multiculturalism
- anger management
- social skills and
- emotional regulation.
The research-based curriculums used to teach these lessons are
- “Second Step” (a social-emotional learning curriculum - external link opens in a new window)
- “Kelso’s Choice” and
- "Zones of Regulation"
These programs use pictures, videos, songs, games, and activities to teach students life concepts such as problem solving, empathy training, and impulse control.
I also incorporate children’s’ books, puppets, and role play to bring these concepts to life.
