    1) Who can I contact for more information about my Chromebook?

    2) Can students use their own personal devices instead of the school-issued Chromebook?

    Generally no - they will be using school supplied devices.  Devices need to be school-supplied to be able to access the resources at the school.  The use of personal devices other than phones will be handled by the administrator on a case by case basis.

    3) Will students be able to keep their chromebook when they graduate? 

    Students have the ability to keep their Chromebook according to the schedule below when they graduate, if the machine is four years old.  If students have been respectful in the management of their chromebook, they will get a chromebook upon graduation, provided the budget can support this option.

    • Class of 2020  – No. These devices have one more years of service. (Trickle down to other schools or spare
    • Class of 2021 – No. These devices have one more years of service. (Trickle down to other schools or spares)
    • Class of 2022 – No.  These devices have another year of service. (Trickle down to other schools or spares)
    • Class of 2023 – Yes.  These devices will have served for four years.
    • Beyond 2023 - Yes, provided the budget can support this.

    4) Will Students be able to keep their Chromebooks over the summer?

    The Technology department will do a check on each assigned device for hardware issues in May, and then students not graduating will take their devices home for the summer. There will be another check in August upon returning to school. 

    5) Do students keep the same chromebook through their career at EHS? 

    Yes, provided that they maintain the device in good condition.  We may provide updated chromebooks as needed.

    To encourage students to take care of their Chromebook and respect it, Chromebooks will remain with the same student throughout their career.

    6) Who is responsible for the cost of repairs/replacement? 

    Except in the case of intentional damage, loss, negligence, or other disciplinary issues, the district will maintain the devices until the student graduates.  If a student loses the Chromebook, the Parent/Guardian/Student is responsible for the total cost of replacement. If there is intentional damage, or a pattern of damage, the Parent/Guardian/Student will be responsible for the cost of the repairs.

    Lost charger is $25.00, First damage is $25.00 and subsequent damage is paid at repair costs, Chromebook replacement is $250.00.  High School Admin staff will manage billing and behavior.

    Students may be blocked from participating in graduation ceremonies as a consequence of unpaid damages.

    7) Do Chromebooks work offline? 

    Yes. You can use offline-ready apps to keep using a Chromebook when it’s not connected to the Internet, and it will sync when connected again. Below are some examples:

    • Read and write emails with Offline Gmail 
    • Write a note or make a list with Google Keep
    • Create and edit documents, slides, or spreadsheets with Google Drive apps (Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides)
    • View and RSVP to events with Google Calendar
    • View and edit photos saved with the built-in photo editor

    8) What is considered intentional damage, loss, or negligence? 

    Intentional damage includes, but is not limited to:

    • Throwing the Chromebook
    • Hitting/Striking the Chromebook
    • Removing Keys
    • Writing on, scratching words or pictures on, or placing stickers on the rear of the device
    • Removing or damaging factory labels, EWSD inventory tags, etc
    • Any deliberate act of damaging the Chromebook
    • Other special situations as determined by the district

    Loss refers to an item that cannot be produced at the helpdesk for seven days.

    Negligence refers to spills, sitting on the device, failure to treat the device with proper respect resulting in damage

    9) What if the Chromebook is lost or stolen? 

    In the event that your Chromebook should be lost or stolen, a police report must be filled out by the parent or guardian and submitted to the school office. Please see your building principal if a Chromebook is lost or stolen.

    10) Can additional programs or apps be installed? 

    Additional programs, apps, or other content may not be installed on the chromebook by anyone other than approved School personnel. The district reserves the right to remove any content which interferes with learning or is otherwise deemed inappropriate (e.g., creates an unacceptable risk to the student, property or the District).
