Meet Team Discovery!
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Team Discovery! We are excited for the coming school year and look forward to seeing you at the end of the summer. Later this summer we will be sending out a letter with needed school supplies for the coming school year. Keep an eye out for this in early August.
Team Discovery is unique at ADL because it is composed of both 7th and 8th graders. These two grades will have separate classes throughout the school day, but we will have some unique opportunities for team building and mentoring across the grades. Let us introduce you to the teachers of Team Discovery:
Catherine Parlante This is Catherine’s fourteenth year as a special educator at ADL. She is looking forward to working with the students, families, and teachers on Team Discovery. Catherine enjoys walking her two dogs with her son. She is excited to return to school in the fall!
Andy Corran This is Andy’s third year teaching Humanities at ADL. In his class, he enjoys exploring different cultures and the big questions and challenges facing the country and the world. Students spend a lot of time reading and writing different types of texts while also engaging in thoughtful discussion based on respect for others. Born and raised in Canada, he ended up in Vermont by way of UVM where he double majored in History and Public Communication. He also played for the varsity hockey team. Now with two little boys, he stays busy chasing them around. He enjoys exploring the outdoors and hitting the golf course during the amazing Vermont summers. He is excited to learn more about his students in the coming year!
Katherine Cooper This is Katherine’s second year teaching at ADL. Last year, she taught both math and science on Team Discovery, and she is excited to be focusing on math this year. Earlier in her career, Katherine worked in land conservation for the National Park Service and a national non-profit organization in the Rocky Mountains and the Southwest. She began teaching in 2015, after completing her Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Vermont. Outside of school, Ms. Cooper enjoys lots of outdoor activities with her family, including canoeing, hiking, and skiing. She’s also looking forward to doing a lot of reading this summer - both on her own and with her son.
Brian Neufeld This is Brian’s fifth year teaching at ADL and he is excited to be returning to Team Discovery. He looks forward to bringing science alive for his students with plenty of labs and hands-on experiences. After teaching in Oregon, Maine, Kenya and Washington DC, Mr Neufeld is delighted to call Vermont home and even after seven years is still trying to get a hang of these winters. Outside of school Mr Neufeld loves hiking and making sand castles with his two kids. He is an avid reader, a gardener and runner. He looks forward to sharing his passion for the natural world with his students in the coming year!
