Principal Kevin Briggs
You found me! Welcome to Essex Middle School home of the Eagles. For the past 9 years I've had the pleasure of working alongside some of the greatest advocates for children and families. The staff of EMS is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of each and every child and their family. Through their countless hours of working within content specific Professional Learning Communities to the team meetings that occur daily, the staff of EMS are ready.
I'm so very proud of the opportunities that EMS provides our learners. From the engaging classroom lessons, community partnerships, community garden and sugar house to the after school clubs and extra-curricular sports, each child is sure to find their place.
2017-2018 school year is sure to be special. Our teachers have been preparing, the halls are being cleaned and the excitement is in the air. I'm looking forward to seeing each of you at our Annual Ice Cream Social on Monday, August 28, 2017.

The weather over the last week has made it feel more like the beginning of the school year rather than a month in. The cooler temperatures yesterday and today were certainly welcomed by the students and staff. Although, the popsicles handed out on Wednesday must of felt pretty good as I heard from more than one how thankful they were for a cool treat.
Thanks for all you’re doing at home as the hallways are full of smiles, respectful and amazing children. The beginning of the school year has been fun to watch as teams are working hard to build a community and develop relationships that will last throughout the year. Our guidance folks are meeting with every student over the first 6 weeks to make sure that we connect and that each child has an adult in the building that they connect with.
If throughout the year you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me.

Recently, the photography club graced our school with beautiful photos taken around the property. Just yesterday a dozen students joined in a weekly cooking class. If your son/daughter is interested...remind them to listen to Mrs. Maiberger during announcements as she highlights current clubs. There’s also a list of current offerings on the wall to the left as you enter EMS.
JumpRope: EMS, ADL and Westford use an online grading/communication tool called JumpRope to share how your child is performing academically as well as socially/emotionally. At EMS, this is year three of our understanding Standard Based reporting. Over this time we’ve heard from some that the level of detail is a lot. With that feedback we have worked as k-12 teachers to reduce the information to highlight the expected proficiencies in each subject area. At Open House next week, I will be available to answer questions you may have.
In the meantime, be on the lookout early next week as you will be receiving an email with your log-in information so you can access JumpRope.
Social Media: Don’t forget to check us out on our homepage, Facebook and Instagram if you want a chance to see behind the walls of EMS. Recent posts...some Soccer photos and the Delta Team’s experience to Keewaydin.
