Math Intervetion at EMS
Math intervention is a support to provide addtional math instruction to students who are below grade level in one or more skill areas.
Students in Math Intervention fully participate in their core math class everyday. Small groups of students meet with Mr. Cummings during their team's intervention block. Intervention blocks offer a variety of supports and activities to meet individual student needs without missing class time, Unified Arts, or Foreign Language.
If you would like more information about Math Intervention at Essex Middle School, please contact Mr. Cummings or your child's math teacher.

Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Dana Cummings
After 17 years teaching middle school math and science, Dana is currently exploring a new role as a math intervention teacher at Essex Middle School. He is currently involved in his district’s math and MTSS committees and previously participated in committees focused on literacy in content areas, the use of protocols in PLCs, changes to discipline systems, and developing math expertise among teachers. Dana’s ongoing involvement with the Middle Grades Institute is driven by his appreciation for--and learning from--others when expertise, experience, commitment, passion, struggle, and growth richly intersect the last week of June every year. Dana and his family live in Huntington. They like to camp and kayak in the summer and winters find them on slopes, nordic trails, sledding hills, and in the woods.
