CTE Guidance Department

  • CTE Guidance Department would like to take this opportunity to let you know who we are, and how we can help support academic and career success for our students.

Center for Technology, Essex has a team of three Career and Technical Education School Counseling Coordinators, and a Pre-Tech Family Outreach Coordinator.

We work hard to coordinate services with our nine sending schools. We maintain a “team” approach as we work with students, parents/guardians, sending school guidance, CTE Administrators, CTE Program Teachers and academic teachers, as well as Special Educators.

First off, we help support students to find their “fit” and to feel successful and safe. It takes a great deal of courage for students to “step out of their comfort zone” and embark on a path of their choosing by coming to CTE. All of us at CTE promote an environment of Health, Wellness and Respect. This encompasses not only their academic education but the social and emotional areas as well.

Guidance addresses areas of problem solving, confidence building and personal accountability (also called Worker Traits in programs).

Guidance also addresses issues of tolerance and respect, holding a firm clear line of NO tolerance to bullying and harassment. We at CTE believe that all students have the right to a safe school environment.

Students are encouraged to be involved in their education and extracurricular activities. This may be through their involvement in Community Service Days, attending Women Can Do conferences, or joining student council. CTE has a strong, active Student Council where student’s voices are heard and valued. CTE guidance helps support the growth and development in all aspects of our students’ lives.
