From the Principal's Desk

Dear ADL Parents and Families,
Happy new year! I hope all of our students and families enjoyed the holiday break and are staying warm today.
With the winter weather upon us, the parking lot and drop off area can be a treacherous place in spite of the early morning efforts of our district maintenance team. We have seen improvements in the drop off and pick up process since the beginning of the year. However, we have continued to hear some concerns about student and staff safety at these times due to a small number of drivers who are not following the expected drop off and pick up procedures.
Please heed the expectations for drop off and pick up, which include driving on the left side of the median and not driving through the staff parking lot. There have been drivers who have passed cars in the waiting lane of traffic and sped up ahead to drop their student off at the curb past the median. This is a safety concern. We understand that there are times when there are many cars and the line is long. Please ask your student to anticipate your arrival at the curb, and be ready to exit your vehicle when you stop at the curb. This should allow the flow of traffic to progress at a safe and steady pace. Thank you for your attention and support of these procedures.
On a separate note, I also wanted to remind parents and guardians of our This is Us project starting this month. You can sign up for your family’s free family portrait session (the sessions are 10 minutes long) at this link.
Finally, we are excited to co-host the 2016 documentary Screenagers next Thursday, January 11th at 6:30 in our ADL library. We hope many will join us for this viewing and discussion!
