February 4, 2020 The annual ADL Basketball Tournament is a timeless local tradition. For years, several schools from all around the area have gathered for four nights of electrifying fun. However, this year’s tournament is quite special: 2020 marks the tournament’s 50th anniversary.
“[The tournament] is a big event for the community, especially our school community,” said ADL Athletic and Tournament Director Kevin Barber. “A number of kids that have either played in the tournament or were a part of it in the past come back and either work or come to visit.”
With 50 years behind the name, the ADL Basketball Tournament is believed to be the oldest middle school basketball tournament in the entire country. “We haven’t found an older one,” Barber explained.
Barber also spoke about reuniting past generations of competitors to celebrate the anniversary. “We’re trying to invite at least one player from every year,” he said. “We’re going to try and get a reception going for them so that we can all get together and reminisce.”
The 50th annual ADL Basketball Tournament will be held Wednesday, February 19, through Saturday, February 22. The games will take place from 4-9 p.m., and then 3:30-9 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $3, while students in fourth grade or under are free with an adult. There will also be refreshments in the cafeteria.
