EWSD Equity Policy Development

May 10, 2021

The Essex Westford School District Board is working toward the development of an equity policy. A ThoughtExchange was created for the community to provide feedback and the EWSD held an Equity Policy Community Round Table in October of 2020. In addition, a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) affinity group, with intersectionality among many identities, met recently to develop policy language for the Board to consider.

The EWSD is providing the following additional sessions for the community to collect perspectives about the EWSD Equity Policy. Our Equity Policy will be designed to address action-oriented change for the District schools and to create equitable educational experiences and outcomes for our students.

Thursday, May 13 - 5-6 p.m. (By phone or Zoom)
Disability Affinity Space: Individuals with disabilities, including students, staff, parents/caregivers, and community members are welcome to come and share your thoughts about what you need from the District.

Thursday, May 13 - 6:10-7:10 p.m. (By phone or Zoom)
Centering a Discussion on Financial Hardship: Addressing inequities specific to those who experience financial hardship is central to the work of the EWSD leadership. Given this, we will host this conversation to discuss how we can further meet this aim.

Monday, May 17 - 4:30-5:30 p.m. (By phone or Zoom)
LGBTQIA+ Affinity Space: Members of the LGBTQIA+ community, including students, staff, parents/caregivers, and community members are welcome to come and share your thoughts about what you need from the EWSD.
