ADL and EMS Students Take Part in Mural Residency

October 5, 2021

Seventh and eighth-grade students from Albert D. Lawton and Essex Middle School recently had an amazing opportunity to work with Boston-based artist Alex Cook, to create two large-scale murals for our greater Essex community. Cook has worked with schools and communities around the world on murals to bring about positivity, social awareness, and inclusion. One of his “You are Loved” murals is permanently painted on a wall in downtown Burlington near Church Street.

Students chose two messages and helped Cook with design ideas for the murals. Together at ADL, students worked in small groups throughout the week to paint the murals with Cook.

ADL and EMS would love to share these beautiful murals with their positive messages and install the finished versions in our greater Essex community before they go back to their respective schools for permanent installation. If you would be interested in possibly displaying one of these large murals at your business for the community to see, please contact Tina Logan (tlogan@ewsd.org) or Michelle Badji (mbadji@ewsd.org).
