School Entrance Procedure Change
November 26, 2018
Dear Westford Families,
I am writing to inform you of a change in procedures specific to visitors and the locking of the front door at Westford School. Starting on Monday, December 3, 2018, the front entrance of the school will be locked during school hours. As you know, all exterior doors except the front door have been locked during the day. We are making this change in response to a review of relevant safety information, including current national and state recommendations, as well as safety walkthroughs and assessments. This is not a response to a current or specific safety concern at Westford School. We are hopeful that a change in procedure, while potentially inconvenient, will not impact our goal of making families feel welcome.
This means that starting Monday, December 3, visitors will be expected to ring the bell attached to the front door entrance and identify themselves along with their purpose before entering the building. Visitors are expected to wait in the main office where visitor name tags will be distributed. Teachers will be called down to the main office to escort visitors for meetings and appointments with teachers that do not take place in the conference room.
The front door system has both video and audio capabilities. Terri Martin, Office Manager, will individually screen visitors during the school day and up to 4 p.m. Please note that from 8-8:10 a.m. and 2:55-3:10 p.m., the front door will be unlocked to accommodate the beginning and end of the school day.
We do expect an increase in wait time with this change and appreciate your patience.
