2019-2020 JumpRope Updates

Dear Westford Middle School Families, 

We are excited to welcome you all to the 2019-2020 school year! We are writing to provide you with a few updates in regards to our grading and assessment system, and procedures in JumpRope. 

Our tool for communicating your child’s progress to you will continue to be the JumpRope family portal. If you have used the portal in previous years, you will see that there have been a few updates made for the 2019-2020 school year. Most importantly, the grade scale has been updated to more accurately reflect student achievement. Please note that teachers will update grades by the mid-point of the marking period and at the end of each reporting period. Families will be sent a reminder email to log in and check their students’ Jumprope grades at the mid-point of each reporting period and will be emailed a PDF report of your student’s grade report at the end of each trimester.

The numbers that correspond with achievement in the standards are as follows: 

  • 3.8-4.0: Expanding: Student exceeds the standards for the concept or process and can extend, generalize, and apply it to new learning at this time of the year.
  • 3.0-3.7: Secure: Student meets the standards consistently and independently applies all concepts as well as communicates them with confidence at this time of the year.
  • 2.0-2.9: Developing: Student is approaching the standards for some of the concepts and can complete tasks with assistance at this time of the year.
  • 1.0-1.9: Beginning: Student is starting the learning process toward the achievement of the standard at this time; may make attempt(s).

We are confident that this learning scale will accurately reflect your child’s progress and achievement toward meeting proficiencies. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or to one of us if you have any questions. Thank you very much, and have a great year!
