On October 9, 2019, the Global Leadership Program Speaker Series welcomed Ambassador Dirk Wouters, the Belgian Ambassador to the United States. Ambassador Wouters was appointed Ambassador to the U.S. in 2016. He is responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy in Washington, D.C, and its Consulates.

After joining the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1980, Ambassador Wouters’ diplomatic career has included both multilateral and bilateral assignments and has been primarily focused on European affairs.

The Ambassador addressed 100 GLP students and special guests, including Vermont Secretary of Education Dan French, Personalized Learning Coordinator of the Agency of Education Sigrid Olson, Essex Westford School Board members, Essex Town Selectboard members, and the President and Vice President of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Students from Athénée Emile Bockstael attended the talk virtually via Skype from Brussels, Belgium. They will be participating in the fifth exchange with EHS starting October 25.
