New Breakfast Option Available for EHS Students and Staff
October 1, 2019 Are you an Essex High School student or staff member who forgot to have breakfast? Or maybe you are in need of a quick bite before heading to your next class? The Essex Westford School District Child Nutrition Program (CNP) staff have you covered with its new Bagel Cart.
After receiving feedback from EHS students, CNP set out to find a high-quality bagel to serve and for methods to do so that would help increase access to breakfast each day. With that, the Bagel Cart was born.
That name is only temporary though, as there is a student-led competition in place to help create an identity and logo for the new food service option. Submissions will be accepted and then a vote among EHS students will take place to officially brand the food cart.
Located in the lobby by the counseling offices, it is open every day from 7:30-9:45 a.m. and is offering asiago, everything, cinnamon raisin, and plain bagels with hand-mixed plain, bacon scallion, and veggie cream cheese options, as well as coffee and juice. The bagels are baked fresh daily at Blackburn Foods, which is located right in Essex Junction.
“It has been incredibly successful so far,” said Meghan Martin, CNP Farm to School Coordinator. “Our sales and participation are increasing every day which is very exciting!”
The Bagel Cart also offers a bagel punch card for frequent users, as for every 10 bagels purchased, the next one is free.
