Meet New EWSD Board Member Erin Kennedy Knox
July 9, 2020
Erin Kennedy Knox was one of two new residents to join the Essex Westford School District Board this summer. Get to know Erin a little better in this quick Q&A:
Tell us a little bit about your background and what specific strengths you bring to the EWSD Board?
- I have spent my career working in communications, marketing, and sales. I feel that my work experience gives me some nice tools to use in my board work: effective listening, working collaboratively, being creative with problem-solving and when facing new challenges, and building consensus.
What motivated you to want to become a school board member?
- I was a board member for about three years on the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union and U-46 (EHS/CTE) boards previously. I found my time on those boards to be very rewarding and I had been once again looking for ways to work for where I live - especially in the area of education and our school community.
What is your vision for education in this community?
- My vision for our schools is one that is collectively shaped by all of our stakeholders … administration, teachers, support staff, parents, students, and community members. My vision includes a climate of equity, quality, sustainability, and innovation. I envision state of the art tools for teachers and students to use, facilities that can support the changing needs for education now and for the future. I envision schools that are the hub of education for students and their families, but that can also serve as a resource for all community members as well.
How can the Board be accessible to the community?
- I encourage people to attend our meetings (currently via Zoom) or in person when that happens. Community engagement and participation in the work of our educational community is crucial. We also have a great website where you can view policies, watch past meetings, and get contact information for board members.
