Black Lives Matter Flag Raised at Each EWSD School

Media Coverage: WCAX | Local 22/44 News
The Essex Westford School District Board voted unanimously on July 6 to fly the Black Lives Matter (BLM) flag at each of its schools for the 2020-2021 school year. On Thursday, August 6, the BLM flag was raised together simultaneously at each EWSD school in solidarity with Black people in our schools, our community, and our world.

Essex High School, Westford School, and Albert D. Lawton already have the BLM flag up, but each of these schools re-raised it on August 6 to signify the decision to raise these flags for the 2020-2021 school year.

The EWSD is actively working toward being an anti-racist organization through professional development, curriculum analysis, hiring practices, policy review, and other areas of practice that focus to ensure that we are recognizing the assets of all cultures, ethnicities, and races. The need to create equity and repair harm done by oppression to many peoples is a critical part of the vision of EWSD.
