January 29, 2019 - Essex Middle School will host the District III Music Festival on February 1 and 2 for students in seventh and eighth grade. Students will take part in rehearsals on Friday and Saturday morning, then wrap up the event with a concert on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. which is open to the public.
Tickets for the concert on Saturday are $7 per person. The last time that EMS hosted, over 600 tickets were sold. Students from EMS, Albert D. Lawton, and Westford will all be sending representatives.
The festival will feature 50 music teachers, as well as nearly 250 students taking part in either chorus, band, or orchestra. Students in orchestra and chorus had to go through auditions at their individual schools and were selected by ability. Band students went through a formal audition process in November and were selected based off their audition score. District III is made up of 18 different schools in the Champlain Valley and the purpose of the festival is to support a quality musical experience outside of the individual schools by offering participation in balanced music performing groups.
