EWSD is committed to “growing hearts and minds for a better today and tomorrow: every day, every way, every one.” We serve approximately 4,500 preschool through 12th grade students in ten schools across three communities: Essex Town, Essex Junction and Westford, Vermont. We are one of the state’s largest and most highly-respected school systems, employ close to a thousand teachers and staff and operate with an $80 million-plus budget.
A Note on the Year
The 2020/21 school year will look different than it has in the past. We anticipate changing conditions due to COVID-19 and will update our policies and procedures as necessary. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for our staff and students, and will provide resources and support on an ongoing basis.
Our district has created and regularly reviews a COVID-19 Exposure Control Plan and launched a website for all 2020/21 communications. Training courses and materials will be provided to all staff. If you would like, you may view a short (3-minute) video about working in our schools this year that was created in December.
We opened in a hybrid model this fall, beginning with two in-person days for all students and three days of remote learning. Per state mandate, everyone will be required to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing while on district property. As of January 4, 2021, our pre-K through grade 5 students shifted to Wednesdays as a remote day; on April 26, 2021, they will return to five days of in person instruction. The higher grades continue in the original hybrid model.
Before reporting for an assignment, each substitute must fill out the EWSD COVID-19 Health Survey (this should be done in the morning prior to arriving at the school). Thank you!
