What will I learn...
Students in the Automotive Technology program gain training and experience in the principles of automotive diagnosis and repair. Students study braking systems, steering and suspension, all-wheel alignment, engine repair and basic electricity including starting and charging systems.
Students learn in a shop environment and have the opportunity to work on many vehicle types including motorsports equipment like ATVs and dirtbikes. Students also learn how to safely use the equipment and tools found in an automotive shop: hydraulic lifts, floor jacks, mount and balance tire equipment and diagnostic equipment.
The focus of the Automotive Technology program is more than learning how to repair a vehicle. This program provides students with a better understanding about how automotive systems work and how to problem solve to provide the correct repair.

Students may earn their Student ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certifications
Earn additional credits that apply towards college through CTE's Dual Enrollment program
Student may earn credits through articulation agreements with partnering Automotive Colleges
After completing the first year, students may qualify for an apprenticeship position at a local business for the Second Year Automotive program

Advisory Committee
The Center for Technology has long standing partnerships with businesses and industry leaders through program advisory committees. The goal of these committees is to ensure that CTE's programs are meeting and exceeding industry standards. Advisory Committees meet twice per year. Posted below are the most recent minutes.

Eligible students may take up to one college course per semester. These courses are offered through Champlain College, University of Vermont and the Community College of Vermont.
Career Work Experiences
Work-based learning, school to work cooperative opportunities and apprenticeship for AYES (Automotive Youth Education Systems) students are available with many of CTE's local partnering businesses such as Heritage Ford & Toyota, Almartin Volvo, Automaster, Goss Dodge, Lucky Trailer Sales and Shearer Chevrolet.
What's Next / Employment in the Field
Students completing the Automotive program at CTE and who are interested in pursuing a career in the field may enter the workforce as a technician and seek additional training and certification through dealerships. Students also continue with their education at technical colleges such as Vermont Technical College or other institutions of higher education.
