We hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving break with family and friends. The first trimester is almost at a close. New program offerings, new staff members, new teams, and a new schedule have made for a dynamic fall semester at ADL. We were grateful to have some time during our in-service days for discussing how our core values as a school-well-being, relationships, opportunities, ingenuity, and perseverance-are reflected in our work.
Ben t. Matchstick, founder and professor of the Cardboard Teck Instantute, visited Essex Elementary School for five days, bringing cardboard pinball, marble maze games, and paper folding into Journey Blain’s art classes.
Students wrapped up a recent math unit, where they had to create board games that involved answering questions about fractions.
Two third graders at Hiawatha School came up with the idea of adding a 'buddy bench' for their playground. The McDonald's on 106 Pearl Street in Essex Junction has partnered up with the school and will be donating 10% of its sales from January 12-14, 2018 for this effort.
EWSD Co-Director of Student Support Services Dylan McNamara was featured on Vermont Public Radio on January 9 as part of Vermont Edition in an episode titled "'Emotional Disturbance' Among Vt. Students: What It Means And How The State Helps."
