Scholarships
A 3-week leadership exchange program to U.S. teenagers (ages 15-18) and adult educators. The program provides full scholarships to 120 American participants. Youth Ambassadors is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The program is administered by World Learning in partnership with Amigos de las Américas and Georgetown University CIED.
Echo Leahy Center for Lake Champlain
A teen leadership program, E-Team, is a way for teens to directly engage visitors through science-related activities, hands-on crafts, and interpretation of exhibit areas. Teens also get the opportunity to assist with special events and develop community-related programs. In addition to helping ECHO fulfill its mission, participants will gain valuable science content knowledge, job skills, a stipend of $1000 for the year, social interactions with new peers, and leadership experience.
National Security Language Initiative for Youth
The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) is a program of the U.S. Department of State that provides merit-based scholarships for eligible U.S. high school students to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs. Programs are available for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian and Turkish. NSLI-Y was launched in 2006 to promote critical language learning among American youth. The U.S. Department of State, in cooperation with American Councils for International Education, awards and administers merit-based scholarships to high school students for participation in immersion programs in locations where the eight NSLI-Y languages are spoken. NSLI-Y immerses participants in the cultural life of the host country, giving them invaluable formal and informal language practice and sparking a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures. Previous language study is not required; language learners of all levels are encouraged to apply.
Virtual Intercultural Avenues (VIA) - Rotary Scholarships
Over the last four years, our academy has provided more than 20 different scholarships for international exchanges. EHS students have travelled to France and Belgium, and students from Belgium, France, and Spain have travelled to Vermont.
Scholarships have ranged from $75 to $500.
Our scholarships come from The Rowland Foundation, grants from the Rotary Club of Essex, and contributions by Essex High School teachers.
Scholarships are awarded based on commitment to global studies through coursework and experiences, academic excellence, as well as enthusiasm and interest.
The scholarship is an annually awarded scholarship for juniors that covers four years of tuition, room, board, and expenses. Student selection for this full scholarship is based on academic excellence, an interest in public policy, service, and humility.
