About Us

Welcome to Essex Middle School!

Essex Middle School is home to around 430 students grades 6th-8th. 

We are comprised of two grade level teams per grade.  Each team has a Content teacher of Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. Each team also has its own Special Educator and Instructional Assistant to support all learners.  Teams meets daily to discuss students, planning and collaborating for between 45 - 90 minutes.  The average number of students in each homeroom is between 22-25 students.

Every staff member has been trained and are committed to following the principles oulined in Developmental Design.

EMS Social Contract

Our contract is derived from a point student-led process to define the basic social guidelines which with we will treat one another in the EMS community.

Students, through morning meeting discussion, created this contract, gaining consensus through collaboration. It becomes the anchor for student interaction throughout the year.
