At the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, Hiawatha revealed its new logo and sign. Take a look at the before and afters!
For many years, the three schoolwide expectations at Hiawatha were Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Your Best. Faculty and staff decided to change the third expectation, Be Your Best. While Hiawatha framed this expectation around persistence and goal setting, we felt it approached perfectionism, and we did not want to promote this concept to our students. The SEL Team participated in brainstorming ideas for a new expectation and all faculty and staff gave input into our final decision. Our new expectation is Be Curious! Classrooms and grade levels are learning about our 3 expectations, their schoolwide definitions, and ways to implement them in our classrooms and school.
Be Kind: wanting do good things for people, to help people, and help people be happy
Be Safe: acting in ways that people's bodies and feelings are not hurt in any way
Be Curious: wondering and wanting to know about the world and other people
