First graders at Hiawatha Elementary are reading books such as Waiting for the Biblioburro and My Librarian is a Camel: How Books Are Brought to Children Around the World and learning about how kids in remote places everywhere get access to books. The students are learning that people get books from old train cars, wheelbarrows, and book buses and that they get delivered via horseback, camels, elephants, and more.

As part of this unit, they are working to get three Little Free Libraries built and installed in to-be-determined areas in the school district. One of them was built by local resident Gary Gawor. The students will work to get it decorated before it gets installed!
