The Heavenly Food Pantry, located at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in Essex Junction, will be open to families residing in Essex, Essex Junction, and Westford on Monday, July 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Beginning at 5:30, families arriving will be given a number and asked to wait in the sanctuary to be called downstairs to register. After registration, they will be escorted by a volunteer to the pantry for food, allowing them to make selections of their choosing. After food is gathered, it will be weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry.
As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided by the USDA to eligible families who fall below federally mandated guidelines. This additional food is available to families once a month. Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9 a.m. and noon today or Monday to leave contact information so arrangements for delivery can be made. Families are currently able to visit the pantry each time it is open on the 2nd Monday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the 4th Thursday of the month from 2-6 p.m. (except for November and December when it is the 3rd Thursday). The next food pantry distribution will occur on Thursday, July 27, from 2-6 p.m.

Hiawatha's ELL teacher, Terri Geffert, has been selected as a WIDA: Fellow Instructional Expert for the 2023-24 academic year! As a WIDA: Fellow Instructional Expert, she will engage in a collaborative learning group as well as inform and improve the development of professional learning and resources for other educators from September 2023 to May 2024. WIDA Fellows will also receive a $1000 honorarium after the completion of the cohort in May 2024. 🏆🏆 #EWSD

As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided by the USDA to eligible families

They will then complete their registration. A volunteer will greet and escort them around the pantry, allowing them to make food selections of their choosing. After the food is gathered, it will be weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry.
The pantry asks for proof of residence for each household in the form of a current utility bill with a physical address listed. In lieu of this, families may provide current correspondence from a government agency or other official mail. Identification for each household member may consist of a driver’s license, hospital card, insurance card, school-issued ID, social security ID, or birth certificate. The Food Pantry requests that those visiting the pantry (as well as the volunteers) remain masked when the pantry is open for food distribution. Hiawatha 2nd graders are learning about the life cycle of chickens! Recently, they checked to see if there was chick development within the eggs in their classroom. By holding a flashlight under the eggs, students were able to see whether there was no development at all, partial development, or the beginnings of a chick. 🐣 #EWSD
Hiawatha 3rd grade students planted several Norway Spruce seedlings and on Arbor Day, they collaborated with the Essex Junction Tree Advisory Committee (TAC) and planted a larger Honey Locust at school! https://bit.ly/3nClgRn 🌳🌱 #EWSD
