ADL Creative Writing Book Cover

The ADL Creative Writing Club was launched during the 2021-2022 academic year, with Melissa Holzman as the advisor for the club. One of Melissa's ELA students asked if they could start a writing group and with approval from Principal Jennifer Wood, the club got underway. The group meets weekly to share their writing and to write in the community. Students write in all sorts of genres including fiction, poetry, and fan fiction. All grades from ADL  are represented in the group.

One of Melissa's goals from the start was to have a student publication. Last year, she began a conversation with the ADL art teacher, Tina Logan, about creating a literary/art journal. This spring the idea came to fruition with support from Jennifer Wood, Tina Logan, Shannon Smullen (long-term substitute art teacher at ADL), as well as Deanna Vaida and Eileen Sinopoli (Design and Creative Media Instructors at CTE), and Shai Barber (Design and Creative Media II Student at CTE). Deanna, Eileen, and Shai created a beautiful journal to house the incredible work of the Creative Writing Club students.
