Students participated in the Design and Creative Media Bookjacket Design Project where they were challenged to redesign an existing bookjacket. They read the book for content and to understand the genre, main points, and subtleties. They research and sketch out ideas and formally meet with their client - the librarians. Together, they choose a direction that visually describes the book's genre and creates reader interest.
Using industry-standard software, students design and produce a new book jacket that is entered into a design contest. This year, categories and winners were - Designers Choice: Jonathan Rakoto Razafy (Slam), Librarians Choice: Lucia Clark (Serafina), and People's Choice: Jay Leuschner (Dune). The book is then circulated in the Essex High School Library's collection.
