Today marks the beginning of the Winter solstice. Happy first day of Winter! ❄️🧣🌨️⛄🛷⛸️🎿

The Heavenly Food Pantry, located at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in Essex Junction, will be open to families residing in Essex, Essex Junction, and Westford on Thursday, December 21, from 2 to 6 p.m. Families will be given a number when they arrive and registered beginning at 2 p.m., then allowed to select their food. A volunteer will greet and escort them around the pantry, allowing them to make selections of their choosing. After food is gathered, it will be weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry.
The pantry asks for proof of residence for each household in the form of a current utility bill with a physical address listed. In place of this, families may provide current correspondence from a government agency or other official mail. Identification for each household member may consist of a driver’s license, hospital card, insurance card, school-issued ID, social security ID, or birth certificate. As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food from the USDA is provided monthly to eligible families who fall below federally mandated guidelines. Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9 a.m. and noon today through Thursday to leave contact information (name, address, phone number, number of people in household) so delivery arrangements can be made. A follow-up call to complete registration will take place on Thursday morning.
Families are currently able to visit the pantry each time it is open the 2nd Monday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the 4th Thursday of the month from 2-6 p.m. (except for November and December when it is the 3rd Thursday). The next food pantry distribution will occur on Monday, January 8, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Due to standing water and flooding in our area, some local roads have been affected. Because of this, please expect possible delays for our afternoon bus routes. Some afterschool activities could also be affected. Please be sure to contact your school before the end of the day for the latest information.

Good morning,
All schools in the EWSD are closed today, Monday, December 11, due to weather. This includes the following schools: Hiawatha, Summit Street, Essex Elementary, Thomas Fleming, Founders Memorial, Albert D. Lawton, Essex Middle School, Westford Elementary, Essex High School, and the Center for Technology, Essex.

As winter sports season approaches, we wanted to remind families, friends, and fans about a section of the rink that is restricted during games. Please view the image to see the section that will be closed off as an abundance of caution to ensure there are no spectators near the visiting team locker room. Please view this story from the Essex Reporter (https://bit.ly/3T9WOUH) from last year and also take the time to watch the VPA's video on sportsmanship (https://bit.ly/VTsportsmanship). 🧊⛸️🏒

The EWSD Child Nutrition Program presented its annual District-wide Vermont Harvest Menu to celebrate the collaboration with local producers. A huge thank you to the EWSD local vendors and partners for helping make this happen! https://bit.ly/3MHOCqU 🍎🍝🧀🥖

The Childhood Education and Human Services program created memorial shirts for staff, students, and preschoolers to wear in honor of their former Childhood Education program instructor, Lissa Bogner, who passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. To honor her life and legacy they are “Learning for Lissa” every day! 💕💕

The EWSD understands that our decision to open or close schools in bad weather has a big effect on families. As always, the safety of our students is our top priority. Learn about how the District makes a decision, who makes the decision, and more: https://bit.ly/3MLizGi ❄️❄️#EWSD

There will be no school from November 20-24. Have a great Fall Break! 🍂🥧🧡🍎😊🧣

CTE student leadership hosted the annual t-shirt assembly. All students, from 17 sending schools as well as adult students, came together to celebrate being a CTE community! Student representatives from all 14 CTE programs, as well as the 5 Pre-Tech programs, gave a brief description of what they learn in their respective programs. The assembly ended with raffle prizes that each program provided. It's a fun and informative way for students to come together as a community and learn about other programs besides their own. It's become a CTE tradition that students look forward to, and they all get a CTE t-shirt! 👏👏
