The Northern New England TESOL networking event brought together educators and leaders of English language learners from across the state. Co-led by EWSD's Tamara Eklof (Parks) and Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld, the event focused on supporting multilingual students in early English acquisition.
Attendees participated in topic-specific discussions and heard from Multilingual Learners (ML) and State Title III Directors. All registered participants also received a book from Dr. Honigsfeld!

The Heavenly Food Pantry, located at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in Essex Junction, will be open to families residing in Essex, Essex Junction, and Westford on Thursday, September 26, from 3-6 p.m. Families arriving will be given a number when they enter the building. When their number is called, they will be registered and introduced to a volunteer, who will guide them around the pantry while they select their food. Another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry.
As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided once a month by the USDA to eligible families who fall below federally mandated guidelines. Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at (802) 878-5745 between 9-12 p.m. today through Thursday to leave contact information (name, address, no. of people in household, phone number) so arrangements for delivery can be made. Phone calls to complete registration will occur on Thursday morning.
Families are currently able to visit the pantry each time it is open; on the 2nd Monday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the 4th Thursday of the month from 3-6 p.m. The next food pantry distribution will occur on Monday, October 14, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Congratulations to CTE student Kaiden Fisher, who became Thunder Road’s youngest King of the Road champion. The 16-year-old finished seventh in the 65th Thunder Road Championship Night, which clinched his spot as King of the Road in the late model division season-long points standings.

Kerrin McCadden, an English teacher at the Center for Technology, Essex, has recently been featured in the American Poetry Review for her writing. The American Poetry Review is a magazine that publishes contemporary poetry, literary prose, and other materials to a worldwide audience. McCadden was on the cover of their Volume 53 Issue No.5 edition. 👏👏

They will then be registered and guided to the food pantry, where a volunteer will greet and escort them around, allowing them to make selections. After food is gathered, it will be weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry.
Face masks are optional for those entering the food pantry to ensure safety for visitors as well as volunteers. As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided by the USDA once a month to eligible persons who fall below federally mandated guidelines. Those not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9 a.m. and noon today or Monday to leave contact information (name, address, number of family members, phone number) so arrangements for delivery can be made.
