Dear EHS Families,
On March 9, 10, 12, and 13 students in grades 9 and 11 will participate in the VTCAP state assessments (Wednesday, March 11, will be a regular early release schedule). 9th graders will take 2-part ELA and Math assessments, while 11th graders will take a 2-part Science assessment.
All CTE 11th grade students from EHS are expected to take the VTCAP Science assessment on March 10 and 12. Shared EHS and CTE students are expected to attend their EHS academic class during block 1/2 on testing days.
Non-testing students in grades 10 and 12 will have a late start on these four days and can go to the cafeteria or library if they arrive early. **Note that the 10th-grade Career and College Event is Friday morning (March 13).
Room assignments will be posted in the school counseling lobby beginning March 4. Students will also receive an email with the room assignments. In most cases, Grade 9 students will be in the same room on Monday and Tuesday and in a different room on Thursday and Friday. Grade 11 students will be in the same room on Tuesday and Thursday. Adult helpers will be in the school counseling lobby each morning of testing if students need clarification on where to go.
Testing Procedures for Students
Please try to be on time! If you arrive late, quietly enter your testing room. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will not be admitted to the testing room (you must go to the library), and you will need to make up the assessment the week after April break.
Bring your charged school-issued Chromebook with you. You must test on a school-issued device. Turn the power off and then back on your Chromebook before the testing day so it can run updates.
Students must remain in the classroom until the exam period is over.
The Vermont AOE guidelines state that, "The use of cellphones or any electronic device during a testing session is strictly prohibited". PHONES/WEARABLES WILL BE COLLECTED BY THE PROCTOR. You will not be allowed to be on any electronic device (including your Chromebook) after your test is completed. Please bring a book or something quiet to work on. Devices will be returned at the end of the session.
Day 2 of the 9th grade ELA assessment (Friday) includes a listening component. Wired earbuds will be distributed to those who need them. Students may use their own earbuds/headphones as well.
All makeup tests will be scheduled during the week after April break (April 27 - May 1).
If you have any questions, please contact Erin Cavoneil (ecavoneil@ewsd.org) or Renee Langevin (rlangevin@ewsd.org).
