EMS New Fitness Center

On Friday, October 20, Essex Middle School (EMS) unveiled its brand new fitness center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place at the school. EMS was one of only three schools in Vermont selected as the state’s most outstanding schools for demonstrating leadership in getting and keeping their students fit. With that honor, the school received a fitness center grant of $100,000 from the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils (NFGFC).

NFGFC Chairman Jake Steinfeld took part in the ribbon-cutting, along with EMS students and staff.

Governor Scott signed a proclamation declaring October as “DON’T QUIT! Fitness Month.” During “DON’T QUIT! Fitness Month,” families and communities are encouraged to renew their commitment to making physical activity and healthy eating part of their children’s daily lives. The NFGFC’s goal is to build a nation of the fittest, healthiest kids in the world.
