Jamie Smith Talking to WCAX

March 22, 2023

We wanted to share that the EWSD Director of Transportation, Jamie Smith, has accepted a new position at the University of Vermont and will be leaving the District at the end of this month. He will be greatly missed and we are so grateful for all his work over the past four and a half years.

Since July 2018, EWSD Transportation has been in safe hands, thanks to Jamie. Coming on board right after the merger, Jamie has been instrumental in shaping and developing EWSD’s student transportation system, often amidst many challenges from the pandemic to industry-wide staffing shortages.

Jamie’s relentless dedication to providing the best service possible for our students and his calm demeanor under pressure have been invaluable. During his service with the District, Jamie has done everything from overseeing transportation contractors, hiring and coaching drivers and bus aides, developing bus routes and stops, managing bus incidents, and driving students on special transportation routes. He will be greatly missed!

“From the very beginning, Jamie was the perfect person to lead EWSD’s transportation efforts. Every day he leveraged his years of experience in public transit, along with his deep commitment to our students and families, to give the best our system had to offer,” said Brian Donahue, EWSD Chief Operating Officer.

Jamie’s departure has prompted the search for a new Director of Transportation effective immediately. In the meantime, Mike Frisbie, one of our Transportation Dispatchers, has agreed to serve as the lead of the department.
