Albert D. Lawton Intermediate School is officially a nationally recognized Special Olympics Unified Champion School! The school earned national banner recognition for its commitment to inclusive sports and activities that bring together students with and without intellectual disabilities.
To celebrate, ADL welcomed a very special guest speaker — Loretta Claiborne, a world-class athlete who was born partially blind, has completed 26 marathons, and set a women’s record in the 5000-meter run.
ADL was also recognized by ESPN’s Honor Roll, which celebrates schools nationwide that lead the way in promoting social inclusion. To earn this distinction, schools must meet 10 standards of excellence, including Unified Sports, inclusive youth leadership, and whole-school engagement. They are the first school in Vermont to receive this honor.
