ADL and Milton Middle School GeoBee teams met for a year-end competition. For 90 minutes, the two teams were quizzed about people, places, and geographical features around the world. At the end of the final round, ADL was victorious by 1 point. Congratulations to all the students! 🏆 #EWSD

The Heavenly Food Pantry, located at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in Essex Junction, will be open to families residing in Essex, Essex Junction, and Westford on Monday, July 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Beginning at 5:30, families arriving will be given a number and asked to wait in the sanctuary to be called downstairs to register. After registration, they will be escorted by a volunteer to the pantry for food, allowing them to make selections of their choosing. After food is gathered, it will be weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry. As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided by the USDA to eligible families who fall below federally mandated guidelines. This additional food is available to families once a month. Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9 a.m. and noon today or Monday to leave contact information so arrangements for delivery can be made. Families are currently able to visit the pantry each time it is open on the 2nd Monday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the 4th Thursday of the month from 2-6 p.m. (except for November and December when it is the 3rd Thursday). The next food pantry distribution will occur on Thursday, July 27, from 2-6 p.m.

Fleming fourth grade students participated in the StarBase program, where they traveled to the Air National Guard Base for one day of STEM activities involving rocket building, physics demonstrations about Newton’s Laws of Motion, and CAD design among other things. AP Environmental science students at EHS spent weeks researching an environmental issue of their choice, collecting and analyzing data, writing abstracts and action plans, and communicating with experts in the field. Topics included fast fashion, electronic waste, PFAS pollution, environmental impacts of golf courses, microplastics, localvore eating, invasive species, urban blight, change in migratory bird patterns, and more! Students then had an opportunity to present their Capstone projects! 👏👏 #EWSD

Hiawatha's ELL teacher, Terri Geffert, has been selected as a WIDA: Fellow Instructional Expert for the 2023-24 academic year! As a WIDA: Fellow Instructional Expert, she will engage in a collaborative learning group as well as inform and improve the development of professional learning and resources for other educators from September 2023 to May 2024.
