In June, Vermont’s Universal School Meal Act became law, allowing all Vermont public school students in grades K-12 access to free breakfast and lunch. We encourage all students to take part in the school nutrition program, as increased participation brings funding that allows us to offer high-quality foods, fresh produce, and the ability to purchase more locally! https://bit.ly/3qQaBUO 🍎🥞🍔🌮🍇🍕

EWSD faculty and staff are back and ready for the 2023-2024 school year. ⭐⭐ They started their day by coming together to watch the movie Listen Up, a musical co-written by Vermont teens. 🎥 Listen Up toured Vermont in the summer of 2021 and was made into a film. Within the film, teens share their stories that reflect some of the current issues facing youth, including mental health, racial justice, sexual identity, friendship, love, family, community, and climate change. Then, enjoyed some ice cream before preparing for students to return on Wednesday! 🙂👏 #EWSD

We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school starting on Wednesday! Share your first day of school photos with us by emailing them to communications@ewsd.org 😁📸

The Heavenly Food Pantry, located at the First Congregational Church on Main Street in Essex Junction, will be open to families residing in Essex, Essex Junction, and Westford on Thursday, August 24, from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
Beginning at 2:00, families arriving will be given a number and asked to wait in the sanctuary until their number is called. They will then complete their registration. A volunteer will greet and escort them around the pantry, allowing them to make food selections of their choosing. After the food is gathered, it will be weighed (information for pantry use only) and another volunteer will bring the food to the family’s vehicle. Shopping carts will be made available for those within walking distance of the pantry. The pantry asks for proof of residence for each household in the form of a current utility bill with physical address listed. In lieu of this, families may provide current correspondence from a government agency or other official mail. Identification for each household member may consist of a driver’s license, hospital card, insurance card, ID, school-issued ID, or birth certificate. As usual, there are no income requirements to visit the food pantry and a variety of food is available to everyone; however, additional food is provided by the USDA to eligible families once a month who fall below federally mandated guidelines.
Families not able to attend the pantry may call the Church office at 878-5745 between 9:00 a.m. and noon today through Thursday to leave contact information (name, address, number of people in the family, and a phone number) so arrangements for delivery can be made. A follow-up call to complete registration will take place on Thursday morning. Families are currently able to visit the pantry each time it is open on the 2nd Monday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the 4th Thursday of the month from 2:00-6:00 p.m. (except for November and December when it is the 3rd Thursday). The next food pantry distribution will occur on Monday, September 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

We’re hiring! Join the Essex Westford School District team and make a difference in the lives of our students! For more information or to apply, please visit our website at ewsd.org/jobs 👉 Help us spread the word by tagging anyone you know who may be interested in these opportunities!
